N3ZI DDS based Crystal Bank replacement

This is a version of my DDS intended for replacement of Crystals in vintage radios and repeaters. It uses the same PCB as my regular DDS, but different Firmware.

The Devices accepts a 6 bit digital code which selects one of 60 memory frequencies. You can also use them as 6 individual frequency selection lines, but then you will only have 6 frequencies. There is also an offset frequency that can be selected separately, typically used in repeater applications.

Each of the 60 memory frequencies, and the offset, are setup via the serial port (RS-232 or USB). This is normally a one time setup and the RS232 port can be disconnected. Frequencies are saved in non volatile memory. You can also completely control the DDS via the serial port if you wish. USB control is achieved by using an inexpensive RS232 to USB convertor, typically sold on Ebay for under $5.

There are two frequency tweak buttons on the PCB (up/down) that can be used to adjust the output frequency, in 1 hz steps, for final calibration.

There is no LCD readout on this kit, during setup the frequencies are sent via the serial port, or if you want a frequency display during normal operation, you can add a frequency counter.

The normal frequency range is DC to 20MHz. You can expand this to 30MHz. Higher frequencies are possible using harmonics and appropriate filtering. More info
